What to do next - step by step

You have shared your story. Now here is how to get the best chance of a real outcome. Follow these steps in order for maximum impact.

The company has been notified and has 14 days to respond publicly.
1
Contact the company directly first - in writing

Send a formal written complaint by email. State the facts, what you want (refund, correction, explanation), and give them 10 business days to respond. Keep everything. This creates a paper trail regulators need.

Tip: Subject line: Formal Complaint - Your Name - Date. No response in 10 days? That silence is evidence.
2
Report to ACCC Scamwatch

All scam types should be reported to Scamwatch. Even if they cannot recover your money individually, your report feeds national intelligence. The more reports against one company, the more likely formal ACCC action is triggered.

3
Report to ASIC - for investment and financial scams

For investment fraud, unlicensed financial advisers, fake trading platforms, or superannuation scams - ASIC is your regulator. They can freeze assets and take court action.

4
Contact AFCA - free financial complaints authority

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority handles disputes with banks, insurers, super funds, and financial advisers. It is completely free, independent, and its decisions are binding on companies. They can award compensation.

5
Contact your state Consumer Affairs office

For local traders, builders, and general consumer disputes - state-level Consumer Affairs can investigate, mediate, and take companies to tribunal. Often faster than the ACCC for individual cases.
